Pianista y escritor de canciones estadounidense. Durante su adolescencia tocó piano en cafés y burdeles y en 1899 compuso su primera canción de ragtime, "Sounds of Africa. Él y su socio, el letrista y vocalista Noble Sissle (n. 1889–m. 1975), estuvieron entre los primeros artistas afroamericanos en aparecer en el escenario sin el típico maquillaje del "minstrel. Su espectáculo Shuffle Along (1921), donde debutaron Paul Robeson y Josephine Baker, fue uno de los primeros musicales escritos, producidos y dirigidos por afroamericanos. En 1925, Blake coescribió la partitura de Blackbirds of 1930, y alcanzó el cenit de la fama cuando el musical Eubie se estrenó en Broadway (1978). Dio su último concierto en 1982.
